This is a late 1960s / early 1970s dark red earthenware teapot by Briglin Pottery.  It is decorated with a white tin-glaze, wax resist flowers around the side and has a cane handle.

Briglin Pottery was set up in 1948 by Brigitte Goldschmidt and Eileen Lewenstein in London. The pottery aimed to create affordable and functional pottery for the home. It had a distinctive style, often using wax resists and bold geometric patterns or designs inspired by nature. The pottery closed in 1990. Pots often had earthy tones, often with a speckled or textured appearance, and offered a unique combination of handmade quality and mass production.

The pottery produced lots of wares and was rather atypical for a studio pottery in employing lots of studio assistants and staff to produce the pots for the local London market. At the height of production Briglin employed fifteen assistants and made over three thousand pieces a week. As such prices for some pieces remain affordable and offer good value for money.  Many of the less common designs and patterns are starting to appear in UK auctions.

This teapot is a rare item from their range. It has a more attractive decoration with the sought-after decoration of large sunflowers  running around the sides. The low shape is also rather attractive as is cane handle inserted into the main body of the pot through lozenges with applied holes at each side. The shape is harder to find - with the cane handle in perfect condition. The pot has no damages or condition issues. The word: Briglin is impressed under the spout.

Dimensions:  The height from base to the top of the lid knop is 4 inches. The diameter is 5 1.2 inches. The width from furthest edge of the pot to the tip of the spout is 7 1/2 inches. From base of pot to top of handle is 7 1/2 inches.

It will be sent to you with Royal Mail Tracked Post. This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
