This is another interesting etching by Percy Lancaster (1878 - 1951). It is not titled and shows three elderly print collectors or old-fashioned gentlemen picture dealers looking through a magnifying glass at one of the prints in their collection. They crowd around the artwork and seem to be completely enthralled by the impression that they are inspecting. It echoes the grouping of three old Breton women - which is also for sale in my store.
It is an original etching and drypoint on paper.

Number 36 from a small limited edition of only 45 impressions. It is signed in pencil bottom right. It is undated - but probably was made in the 1920s. Lancaster's print editions were generally small often with only 35 - 45 impressions being made of each image.
Percy Lancaster studied at the Manchester School of Art and later at the Southport School of Art. He was a major Edwardian artist who exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute, and the Royal Watercolour Society. Lancaster was not only considered a superb painter in watercolour but also produced many stunning, technically accomplished etchings.
He was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1910. His work is in a number of public museums and galleries nationwide - including the V&A, London, Manchester, Liverpool, Hull, Oldham, Huddersfield, Preston, Leicester, Eastbourne, Newport, and Portsmouth.
This print is being sold with an attractive decorative mount and a simple dark brown wood frame. It is in good antique condition with no condition issues. It is ready just to hang on your wall.
