his is a lovely and highly collectable pencil-signed wood engraving by the celebrated British artist and printmaker Guy Mallet. It is of museum quality and his works do not come on the market very often - and this is reflected in my asking price. The work is very Art Deco stylistically - and probably dates to the early 1930s.

Guy Malet was born in Southsea, Hampshire in 1900. In the late 1920s, he studied at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art at Pimlico in London, where he learned the techniques of wood engraving from the maestro, Iain Macnab. He was also known for his articles on the subject of wood engraving published in the Art Magazine. He exhibited at prestigious art galleries in London - including the Royal Academy, Redfern Gallery, the New English Art Club, and the Society of Wood Engravers. He lived in London for most of his life - later moving to Ditchling in Sussex.

His work is held in many public collections - examples of his work are in the V&A, London and the British Museum has a fabulous collection of 48 of his prints (including an impression of this work) in their graphics collection.  His engravings are often conventional in subject matter but with a more modern Cubist-like handling of form and space.

This is a fine wood engraving by Malet - it shows a wonderful rural landscape in the Chilterns. It is entitled below - signed in pencil. It is also a low edition number 5 / 50. So a very fine impression. The area is today designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty - you can clearly see how attractive the landscape is in this wonderful image.

The print is nice and clean with a fresh window mount and a simple distressed matt gold-tone frame. It is all ready for you just to hang on your wall.

We are able to ship to you in the UK. This is quoted at £10 with Royal Mail Special Next Day Delivery - so that the work is fully insured in transit. It will be very carefully packed. Postage will be applied to your order at the checkout.
