This is a highly collectable piece of British pottery. It is now over 200 years old and dates to the Regency Period; c 1820s.
It is one of two that I have listed. This is B (it is slightly lighter in shade).
It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The interior is generally nice and clean with a little glazed over very fine halrline crack in the ceramic wall towards the top. This has been done in the making and does not go throgh the mug - but a more of a little scratch to the inside. But the interior is certainly most shiny and clean. The handle is perfect. I have taken the price down on this a little of reflect the condition issue.
It is also a larger mug size. It is unmarked but it is made by Ridgway and is called a Griffin Pattern jug. The lilac colour is particularly attractive. The sprigware and lilac ground are glazed over with a clear glaze.
As you can see from my photographs, it is a really beautiful piece of antique British ceramics.
The decoration on this big mug features winged Griffins and tiny playful winged putti on each side. There is a large classical urn to the front. There is a scroll of fruiting vine on the main decorative frieze.
The mug is a large one - and listed at a fair price. The is 4 1/4 inches in height with a diameter of 4 1/4 inches. From end of handle to oppostie rim it is 5 3/4 inches.
I also have two jugs listed online. Another mug extactly the same size as this one. .
The jug will be posted to you with Royal Mail Small Parcel (Tracked). This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
