This is a lovely tall Aldermaston Pottery Goblet. It is one of two goblets by Caiger-Smith that I have in my store.

This is a more typical design by Caiger-Smith - with a ox-blood red abstract design - which has been hand-painted by the potter. It then has an applied gold lustre glaze. The goblet is made of terracotta pottery with an applied tin glaze all over.

The goblet also has a painted mark on the base which I believe is the signature of Alan Caiger-Smith (1930 - 2020). The date mark is 1967.

Alan Caiger-Smith was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1930. He studied drawing and painting at the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts.

In 1947 he went on to read History at King's College, Cambridge, graduating in 1952. He trained in pottery at the Central School of Art and Design in 1954 under Dora Billington.

The Aldermaston Pottery was founded in Berkshire in the 1950s by Caiger-Skith and Geoffrey Eastop. Over the years the studio has been home and training ground for many fine British art potters.

Caiger-Smith was Chairman of the British Crafts Centre (1974-78) and was awarded an MBE in 1988.

This delightful tall decorative goblet is in excellent condition. These 1960s issues are much sought after - especially in such a size and nice condition.

Height is 7 1/4 inches. The diameter at the top of the bowl section is 4 inches. The diameter of the foot is just under 3 1/4 inches.

It will cost £4.95 to send to you in the UK. This will be with Royal Mail Recorded and this will be applied to your order at the checkout.
