This is a large hand decorated shallow faience dish by Royal Copenhagen. It is a rare pattern and in one of the larger sizes - and this is reflected in my asking price.
The design features a strange image of a peacock. It was designed by Inge-Lise Koefoed (b. 1939) and is signed with her monogram on the base. It is a larger rimmed serving dish or tray and marked on the back 119/2829.
Koefoed was born in Denmark in 1929, and studied from 1956 to 1960 at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. At the Royal Copenhagen factory, she participated in the creation of the Tenera series, under the direction of Nils Thorsson. She also designed serveral pieces for the Baca series. She was one of six young female artists from Denmark, Norway and Sweden brought into the faience department in 1958 to create a whole new style that came to prominence throughout the 60s and 70s.
This is a harder to find large dish by Koefoed. It will look just delicious on a beautiful piece of Danish teak or rosewood furniture - or mid century coffee table.
Dimensions: The plate measures 13 inches x 9 inches. It has a depth of 1 1/2 inches. It is fully marked to the base, as photographed.
In excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks.
