This is a very rare Scottish Stoneware serving bowl. Great for serving crisps or popcorn for group entertaining - as it is a nice large size.
It is an attractive vintage bowl - made for retail in the prestigious Scottish store: Anta and created at Anta Pottery near Tain in the Scottish highlands. It has an older Anta back stamp (as photographed) on the base.
My bowl is decorated all over with exquisite spongeware dark blue elephants all randomly applied by hand.
This is a very sturdy piece of stoneware pottery. The bowl measures 6 inches in height and with a diameter of 8 3/4 inches. It is a bit of a beast weighing in at 1.9 kg unpacked.
It is in excellent vintage condition with no damages.
Listed at a fair price. I have never seen another one with this pattern - so possibly done as a private commission.
