This is a really beautiful vintage Whitefriars Paperweight complete with its original card presentation box covered in fine hessian. It is marked Whitefriars in gold on the lid - and has the Whitefriars paper label on the side of the box. It also has a little piece of paper stating that is is made of full lead crystal and has the Whitefriars signature cane and date authenticating its manufacture.
I have a few stunning 1970s Whitefriars weights listed on my site. They are all in excellent condition with no damages.
This weight has concentric rings of tiny millefiori canes - in red, white and blue tones - with central cane is a larger white one with a black star in the center. This Whitefriars weight is such an unusual one - it has a polished facet circular viewing facet n the top - and around the sides are five polished circular facets. The unusual thing about this one is at all the spaces between the facets and filled in with deep vertical lines all over creating an interesting constract in textures.
It has a paper label featuring the Whitefriar's Monk on the base - and a teeny weeny cane with a monk and the date 1972 which can be seen just under the edge of the paper label on the base. The base is concave.
Height: about 2 inches - and diameter is about 3 inches.
A very lovely weight - and probably a special piece for the collector of Whitefriars Glass or British Art Glass paperweights.
This is a top quality weight and in excellent undamaged condition. It is now over 50 years old - and I dont think has ever come out of its box.
