This is a really beautiful vintage Whitefriars Paperweight complete with its original card presentation box covered in fine hessian. It is mark Whitefriars in gold on the lid - and has the Whitefriars paper label on the side of the box. It still has the original tissue in the bottom of the box. There is a little (old) mark on the bottom of the box - but that is the only issue with this item.
I have a few stunning 1970s Whitefriars weights listed on my site. They are all in excellent condition.
This weight is in exceptional condition with no damages. It has a central domed area covered in little millefiori canes and has five latticino spokes. The base colour is a a very dark blue. Around the central dome is a crystal clear crown. The surface of the weight is covered all over with faceted and interlocking pentagons - which reflect all the canes when viewed from different angles.
It has a paper label featuring the Whitefriar's Monk on the side - and a teeny weeny cane with a monk and the date 1973 which can be seen on the base. The base is concave with a ridge around the black base area. There is a date cane with the monk symbol near the rosette on the central dome. The central rosette is white, blue and pink and all the surrounding millefiori canes are pale pastel colours.
Height: about 2 inches - and diameter is about 3 inches.
A very lovely weight - and probably a special piece for the collector of Whitefriars Glass or British Art Glass paperweights.
This is a top quality weight and in excellent undamaged condition. I dont think that it has ever been out of the box.
