This is certainly another fine vintage Scottish paperweight for your collection. It was made by the glass maestro at Caithness Glass, Alastair MacIntosh. This one is called Tawny Owl and is CT 675.
It is number 318 out of a limited edition of just 500 pieces. It has the etched edition number and title on the angled display facet towards the base.
Tawny Owl is rather an ingenious weight. The base colours float about one centimeter above the base. The consists of a sprinkle of white and yellow glass granules with a large swirl of white and yellow fingers issuing from the center. Above the whirlwind floats a large clear air bubble. The weight is round in shape with a pair of opposing cut facets at the top - which meet and form a ridge or sharp peak. When you look at the weight from above it resembles the face of a little owl, as photographed. There is a facet cut near the base so that you can angle the weight on a table to view.
It is such a fun weight, and of course in perfect condition with no damages. It is now nearly 40 years old so amazing that it is so pristine. It measures just over 3inches in height and with a diameter of 3 1/4 inches - so a nice larger-sized weight.
