This another interesting Scottish glass paperweight which I am currently listing on my Iconic Edinburgh online store. As you can see it is beautifully made and was created by Strathearn Glass and probably dates to the 1960s.
My Scottish weight has a thin periwinkle base, confined more to the central area of the weight. It has a circular polished pontil mark.
This weight is more unusual in that it does not contain any spokes made of twisted lattcino canes. Instead you have a central rosette of sugar pink canes - which is surrounded by four concentric rings of millefiori canes. The colour are all very pretty pastel ones.
The central cane has a dark blue centre. There is the pink rosette, then a ring of pale green canes, than a green-yellow ring, and then one of pink - with interspaced spiky millefiori canes. The very outer ring it two-tone with pink and darker periwinkle blue canes. All the canes are nicely places and sit well in the ground - which again would suggest a Strathearn weight. There is no maker's marks or canes and any paper label that might have been on the weight have now vanished.
There is a little flaw in the making on this weight - there is a little dark spot - possibly a wee random flake of glass that has fallen onto the design in the making - it is not distracting and I have photographed this for you - so there is no nasty surprises! I have priced this weight accordingly.
This is certainly a most attractive vintage Scottish glass paperweight in excellent condition with no chips or scratches.
It measures 2 inches in height with a diameter of 3 1/4 inches.
