This is a more unusual early paperweight - made in 1988 by the great Caithness glass designer, Colin Terris. It is annotated with the title and issue details which are engraved on the base.
It is called Vesuvius and the top section is of a pyramid shape. The pyramid is made of four teardrop shape polished facets that meet at the top. It is a darker coloured weight a central ochre yellow colour, purple then pink overlays which are all melded together like lava inside a volcano. There are lots of tiny clear air-bubble and a central slighly larger air-bubble in the middle of the weight - it certainly has a feeling of a dark furnace, perhaps an appropriate subject for a glass artist! The weight has darker colours. The four teardrop facets reflect the little air-bubble when seen from above, as photographed.
It is from an edition of only 650 weights. This is Number 110 and it closed at 462 issued.
It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks.
Dimensions: Height is 3 1/2 inches. The diameter at the widest point is 3 inches.
The paperweight will be posted with Royal Mail Tracked Delivery (Small Parcel) and applied to your order at checkout.
