This is a very attractive teardrop-shaped paperweight designed for Caithness Glass by the glass maestro, Colin Terris. It is called Minaret and comes from the Modern Design Series. It is very similar in form to a later weight called Quest designed by Margot Thomson in 1990 (which I have sold but you can see on my archive section).
The paperweight is shaped like a large glass egg - with an angled sliver removed from the front and this curves to form the most elegant shape. This facet acts as a viewing window and when you look into it you can another clear teardrop-shaped air bubble in the center. This sits on a speckled base of aqua and white millefiori canes randomly scattered about. When viewed from the outside these canes look as if they are touched with a bright pink colour. The weight is not made from the more customary clear glass - but from a deep lilac shade and this makes the weight look more exotic.
It is number 168 out of an edition of 650. It measures 3 1/4 inches in height and with a diameter of 3 inches at the widest All the issue details are inscribed on the base. The paperweight is in excellent vintage condition with chips, or cracks.
It is certainly a lovely one by Terris - and this is reflected in my asking price.
