These wee birds have sat on a shelf on my bedroom for nearly 30 years, but I am doing a little shoogle about of things at home and decided to list these.
On offer are this pair of vintage ceramic bookends. The date to around the 1930s and take the form of a pair of white doves. They have a little hole on the side of the upstand section - this is where you might fill with sand or similar material to add weight to the models. As bookends - they would have to have a bit of weight to them. They are currently empty of sand and the apperture is open. You would put a little white coloured patch over this hole or stop up with a small piece of cork.
They have no obvious maker's marks but I am assuming that they are French in origin and dating to the 1930s.
They are in good condition - they have a crackle glaze (original in the making) and their features are depicted with over glaze paintwork. They are in good condition - but one has a litte very fine hairline cracks issuing from the hole on the reverse, as photographed. This has been taken into account with my pricing.
The are 6 inches in height, with a width of 4 1/4 inches and and widthe of 4 1/4 inches.
They are rare survivors and I cant find another pair like them - they would look great in a modernist or Art Deco interior - or for someone interested in fan tail doves.
The pair will be sent to you with Royal Mail Tracked (Small Parcel) service. This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
