This is a very rare survivor - it is a little ceramic tobacco box or pot in the shape of a little black and white terrier's head.
There are little pattern numbers inscribed into the clay on the base, as photographed. This would suggest that it is Continental in origin and dates to the latter half of the 19th century. It certainly has a bit of age to it - and is sold as such.
I have added lots of images - please inspect these, as they form part of my description.
It is a nice size for display and it is about 6 inches in height.
It is in good antique condition with no chips or cracks. There is a little loss to the white glaze on the rim inside - this is not damage but was how the pot was made with the glaze missing these areas. I love his little yellow-painted eyes, There are some little losses to the back near the top - but very minor, stable, and not visible on display (I have taken a couple of images of this area - please inspect these). The thing that I adore most about this pot - is the irregular shape of the lid and how it ripples to try to form an invisible join.
I can't believe that this old tobacco pot has survived so many years in this fine condition. This is reflected in my asking price.
