This is a lovely little vintage Sommerso geode Italian glass bowl or vintage glass ashtray. It is in just excellent clean condition with no signs of use and no damage of any kind.
I love these little geometric chunky bowls.
The interior colour is a rich cobalt blue and it is cased on the outside with a thick layer of clear (slightly tinted) glass. It is faceted all around the outside - the glass cut and polished to form pentagon shapes - there are four in total around the base - and above another 4 half pentagons. There are two little polished dips on the rim - where a cigarette might have rested - but it looks like a fine decorative feature and fits in with the geometric shaping.
It has been a little tricky to photograph with all the angles in this piece - any white marks in my photographs are not on the glass - but are simply reflections.
A nice size for display - measuring 4 1/4 inches in diameter and with a height of approximately 2 3/4 inches.
