This is a lovely little vintage Sommerso geode Italian glass bowl. It is in just excellent clean condition with no signs of use and no damage of any kind.
I love these little geometric chunky bowls. This one is really a fine example due to all the intricate faceting around the exterior. The facets all interlock and has made of elongated diamond shapes, pentagons near the base, and faceted triangles to the rim section - all these facets sure catch the light and almost have a kaleidoscope effect. There are eight straight edges forming the outer edge - and the central bowl dip section is smooth and round.
The interior colour is a rich cobalt blue and it is cased with a thin layer of yellow glass and on the outside with a thick layer of crystal clear glass.
It has been a little tricky to photograph with all the angles in this piece - any white marks in my photographs are not on the glass - but are simply reflections. It certainly looks much better in "real life" than in my photographs.
A nice size for display. It is just under 4 3/4 inches in diameter and has a height of 2 1/2 inches.
It is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks. There are a couple of little scratches on the base - very fine and light in nature - this is a result of the bowl being picked up and put down over many years. I have photographed this area for your inspection. It is certainly a fine addition to any collection of sommerso glass.
