This is a lovely collectable Sommerso geode Italian glass bowl. It is in just excellent clean condition with no signs of use and no damage of any kind.
It dates to the 1960s and it is attributed to Ferro Galliano (it has no original label but many of these are without label so it more than probably by Galliano). It is one of his sommerso dimpled geode bowls and has a total of 18 round (and rather deep) dimples. It is a heavy piece of glass and weight some 1.7 kg.
The bowl has a scarlet red central reservoir which is cased with a thin layer of bright yellow glass and then the thick clear outer layer (with the dimples around the base).
HISTORY: Galliano Ferro formed his own glass factory (Vetreria Artistica Galliano Ferro) in 1955 after leaving Arte Vetraria Muranese, or AVEM (A.Ve.M.), which he co-founded in 1932. Designers at Galliano Ferro include his son Giorgio Ferro, Ezio Rizzetto, Fulvio Bianconi and Vinicio Vianello. Giorgio Ferro became head of the company in 1972. British importers Jaffe Rose are known to have imported some of their work, applying their own "Jaffe Rose, Murano Glass" import labels.
I love these little geometric chunky bowls. This one is a more collectable one. and in just lovely condition. It has no damages. It is listed at a fair price given its size and the skill required to make it.
It has been a little tricky to photograph with all the angles in this piece - any white marks in my photographs are not on the glass - but are simply reflections. It certainly looks much better in "real life" than in my photographs.
It is a fine addition to any collection of sommerso glass.
