Antoine de la Boulaye was born in 1951 and is considered one of France's contemporary horse artists.
This loose sketch of a horse and rider is typical of his work. It looks back to similar studies made in the 19th-Century to French Orientalist artists such as Delacroix - who also excelled in depicting the movement of horses.
This work is sold framed - and the image measures 21 x 21 inches. The frame is a simple gold tone one and measures 38 x 36 cm.
It is in good vintage condition - with perhaps a little cockling to the paper at the edges - but with no spotting or discolouration to the sheet etc. It is signed in pencil by the artist and still has the Gallery's label and stamp on the back of the frame, all as photographed. It is all ready for you to just hang on your wall.
Boulaye's career spans three decades, starting with his education at the Ecole Superieure d’Arts Graphiques of the Academie Julian in Paris.
His official recognition, however, came in 1984, when he was commissioned by the President of France to paint two paintings offered as a gift to Queen Elizabeth II during the President’s visit to the United Kingdom.
Boulaye's works are represented in both private and public collections, including Her Majesty the Queen, Banque Societe Generale, Fond Regional d’Art Contemporain of the Loire region, Fond National d’Art Contemporain (French Embassies in Mexico and in Madrid), Bibliotheque Nationale - Paris, and in the La Roche sur Yon Museum (Arthoteque), France.
I have two works by this fine equestrian artist for sale in my store - both were purchased from the Bernard Chauchet Contemporary Art Gallery in London.
