This is a quirky item and a great decorator's piece.
It is an industrial item - made of porcelain in New Jersey, America. It takes the form of a large hand and forearm. The hand is a mould used to make rubber gloves - you would take the mould and dip it into a container of liquid latex and when this dried on the hand - it would be removed and the process would be repeated.
It is a textured porcelain to the top - and nearer the base, the finish is more shiny. It has two pinstripe blue lines around the wrist section and is marked 7 1/2 BP / General Porcelain, Trenton, NJ, USA, Pat. Pend. FEB 6 1971. There is a size number 3 impressed on the base.
Dimensions: the height is 15 1/4 inches.
These moulds are often sold as plain items. However, in the past, someone has decided to decorate it and they have painted a pretty green tendril with buds running down the wrist - the palm has a large purple flower on it. The paintwork has been done very well - and I think for display purposes it enhances the hand. Similar hands were produced by the famous British ceramic artists, Susan and Richard Parkinson - and this one reminds me a little of those.
Sadly, in the past the little pinkie finger has been broken at the base - and restored - you don't really see this when on display - but the restoration has to be noted in the listing. I have taken images of the area in question for your inspection and consideration. My price has been reduced considerably to reflect this.
UK Postage would be only £4.95 and this would be with Royal Mail Recorded. It will be applied to your order at the checkout.
