This is a very pretty and most unusual vintage 1930s Art Deco Evening Bag.
It has a near semi-circular shape and the main body is made of black silk. The surface is covered with fine embroidery decoration - all over. The bag has soft sides - more like a large evening purse.
The front has a central motif of a little Oriental lady. She is surrounded by an exotic garden - with a whole host of stylised and abstracted flowers. All this is picked out with little embroidered stitches and all surrounded with more needlework picked out with gold thread. Along each side of the bag are tall leafy plants also picked out with gold thread.
The design on the back of the bag reflects that on the front - except it does not have the little lady. All embroidered again - and with lots of gold thread.
The catch and mantle section on the bag is a delight. It is made of a gold-tone metal embellished with small seed pearls, diamantes, grey micro beads and gold embroidery. There is an intricate gold braid all around the edge. You lift the little catch or flap at the front (also inset with pearls and diamante) and the bag opens.
The inside of the bag is made of a rich black satin. There are two pockets one with its original little double sized mirror and the other is empty. It has a little gold trim along the top of each internal pocket - a nice attention to detail.
The interior is totally clean and I dont think that this bag has ever been used.
The bag has a short gold-tone snake chain for you to carry in your hand.
Dimensions: The width at the widest point is 9 inches. The top measures 5 3/4 inches. The height of the main section of the bag is 6 3/4 inches. From the handle to the base it is 11 3/4 inches.
Such an unusual and good-quality vintage bag - you will not find another quite like it. In excellent condition with no damages.
n angular antique gold-coloured clasp at the top. It opens when you press down on a little decorative button at the top - and there is a little metal tag that you pull on to open it up.
There is a needlepoint panel in the centre on each side - this has little embroidered flowers. The surround is made of tiny beige and brown glass beads.
Inside - there is a chocolate brown silk lining with a blue trim all around. The handle is fabric and made from a decorative thick length of ribbon with a brown zig zag pattern. This fabric also forms the sides of the bag. Such attention to detail. The clasp is also decorated with little delicate floral patterns.

It is a beautifully made piece - and this is reflected in my asking price. It has no damage and is lovely and clean.
