This is a collectable antique confectionary tin. It dates to the early 20th century and is probably French in origin.
It has no maker's inscriptions or details on it.
The box is made of tin with raised decorations which feature on the lid a red and iridescent gold highlighted dragonfly - and jugendstil whiplash foliate and reeds issuing from a white water lily. This Art Nouveau motif features on each side of the box.
This one is a more unusual example of this tin confectionary box - in that it retains its original colouring and patina - the main colour is a brown-mustard shade with little printed dark brown dots so that the box resembles a walnut. or honey-coloured wood. Areas of the decoration are highlighted with touches of iridescent gold sheen, as photographed.
The shape of the old chocolate box is very Edwardian with its sweeping curved corners. It has a hinged lid. It is generally clean inside for its age - with no rust but some areas of oxidisation to the metal which you would find on these old antique tins.
It is in lovely condition with no dents or nasty scratches.
It is a nice large size measuring some 8 inches in length. It is 8 inches wide and has a height of 2 1/2 inches.
It is a rarer survivor with its original paintwork still present. You would usually find examples with no colouring to resemble faux wood - so this is reflected in my asking price. This example is probably a more specialist item for the collector of antique tins and advertising.
