This is a very attractive antique brass lantern that dates to around the 1920s. It is made of brass and has an opaque satin glass shade (no chips or cracks).
It is a more minimalistic design - and looks a little Gothic or Islamic in style.
I love the large applied hook section on the top of the brass dome. This hook is riveted onto the dome and twists around elegantly to form an elongated oval hoop. The brass chain fits onto here.
The dome of the hanging lantern is pierced all around with little geometric arrangements of holes for the light to flood out at the top. There is a brass ring where the glass sits at the bottom - and joining the base and dome are four metal strips or flat ribbons to give strength and support- and these attach to the bottom of the dome with decorative rivets - and then towards the top of the shade, they curve outwards and end with a little pointed tip, as photographed.
I have taken lots of images showing all the details of this lovely, well-made hall lantern.
Dimensions: the height from the base to the top of the dome is 10 inches. The height to the top of the ring is 12 1/2 inches. The diameter of the brass ring on the base is about 5 1/4 inches.
It comes complete with it brass hanging chain - this is 20 inches in length.
You would need to have a ceiling rose with a hook on it to hang the lantern from - these are easily had online. There is a little aperture in the center of the dome where your electric flex will run from a bulb holder - again an item that you can easily source online - up to your ceiling rose and electrical connections in the rose.
