This is a fabulous antique Chinese cloisonne ginger jar. It has a black ground covered all over with a cloud pattern. Around the sides are a pair of confronted colourful dragons who are shown chasing a flaming pearl.
There are two dragons of similar colours. They have five blue toes with a yellow scaly body and green, brown, and yellow face. They face each other and have a blue flaming pearl placed between them.
There is a decorative green undulating band at the base - and around the pot rim are decorative bands of blue and yellow. The base is a gold-tone and the interior is a vibrant blue cloisonne colour.
The lid also has a black ground on the exterior and on the interior the blue cloisonne enamel. The lid is decorated with another flaming pearl.
It dates to the first half of the 20th century, probably the 1920s / 30s.
It is in excellent condition with no dents, dings or losses to the cloisonne enamel. These Dragon ginger jars are often harder to find (especially in this condition) and they certainly look good on display.
Dimensions: Overall height is 6 1/4 inches. The diameter at the widest is 6 inches. The lid measures 3 1/4 inches in diameter x 1 inch in height.
