This is pretty Art Deco cream celluloid shallow jewellery or trinket box.
It has a hinged lid which opens up to reveal of white silk taffeta-lined interior (the silk is slightly wrinkled on the base interior) but it is nice and clean. On the lid there is a gold sticker for the retailer: Wilkins - Liverpool, Manchester, Blackpool and the I.O.M (Isle of Man).
The box is in good vintage condition as you can see from my images.
There are two decorative "faux clips" on the lid at each end that take the form of acanthus leaves. There is a textured square in the centre section of the lid - the incised lines run in a parallel sequence on the diagonal.
The box has been moulded and has nice smooth curved edges. The four feet on the base are formed from the main body section and were not applied to the base. The lid is hinged.
The box is quite shallow and would keep smaller items safe on your dressing table - perhaps smaller pieces of jewellery, bangles etc - or perhaps as a little box to keep your calling or dance cards in. It is certainly a fine box - and looks very Deco in its styling.
Apart from the wee rippling to the silk on the base - there are no chips, cracks or discolouration to the plastic. So, generally in good vintage condition.
It measures 14 cm in length and has a depth of 9.5 cm. Its overall height including the feet is 3 cm. These wee boxes are now hard to find and this one is priced at a very fair price.
