This is a little item for collectors of Eastern novelty items. It is a Chopstick Trousse or travelling chopstick case. They are commonly used in East Asia and originated in China or Japan back in the 18th / 19th century.
This personal portable cutlery set was to allow the travellers to cut and eat mears on their voyages. The set consists of a little knife with wooden handle, a pair of natural chopsticks and and a long pick which is a "pickle spear". These sets were often crafted from materials like steel for the blade, with the handle and utensils made of ivory, bone, horn or wood.
My set has a shagreen sheath or outer case. It has metal bindings (not sure if they are silver which has oxidised over the years. There is a little ring at the top to attach the set to a belt.
The overall length is 11 1/2 inches.
The set is in good antique condition - I have taken lots of images for your inspection. The blade of the knife, being made of steel, has some natural oxidisation to it.
