This is a rare head scarf dating to the 1950s.
It is the second scarf featuring the Australian Olympics in my online shop.
It is a fine textile scarf made to celebrate the 1956 Olympics which were held in Melbourne, Australia. The event was considered a watershed one in the city's history; it was instrumental in helping create the 'modern' and 'international' city of today. A variety of souvenirs was produced for the games; handkerchiefs, tea towels, scarves, playing cards, swap cards, crockery, ashtrays, etc. These souvenirs drew upon Olympic imagery: the Olympic torch, the Olympic rings, the flags of participating nations, etc.
This scard is in fine vintage condition - the material is very sheer - and not sure what it is made from as there is no materials tag attached, but think that it might be silk or very fine rayon. As such it is very delicate in nature - and not many of these have survived.
This one measures 17 x 16 inches. - so not so large.
I have taken lots of photographs so that you can assess its condition.
It will look better with a press with a very cool iron - and would do this for you before posting.
A rare piece of Olympic history - and listed at a very fair price to take into account both its relative rarity and condition.
