This is a rarer survivor dating to the Georgian period, probably the late 18th century.
The little snuff box is made of copper with a silver-coloured (probably silver) lozenge on the top with the initials of the previous owner engraved on it in old copperplate script. It looks like it has been hand-made. Around the silver lozenge are little engraved decoration which look like sprigs of foliage.
The box is hinged on the top, three quarters along the length. This hinge lifts upwards to allow you to get easy access to the contents inside. It closes nicely to form a tight closure. There has been an issue in the distant past with the hinge inside as it looks like it has some solder added to give more strength. The inside of the box has been tinned when created to allow the snuff to be kept in it all nice and fresh.
It is certainly a nicely made little Georgian copper snuff box - the size and shape make it just perfect to slip neatly into a gentleman's pocket. The copper has not been polished and has a patina of age - all the edges are secure and the box has no dings or dents. It is listed at a fair price for one of these little antique boxes.
Dimensions: the length is just over 3 1/4 inches. The width is 1 3/4 inches. The depth is just over 3/4 inches.
I have taken lots of images for your inspection so you get a good idea of the craft in this wee box.
It would have to be posted to you in a small sturdy box to keep safe in transit. This would be with Royal Mail Tracked and applied to your order at the checkout.
