I always love these little "folk art" vintage sculptures which are all made from long metal nails.
This one must date to around the 1980s. There is an old label on the base which states that this very accomplished one was made by the self-taught artist John McPhail, at Camp Cottage, Moffat. McPhail excels at these little "stick" figures which he has been making for the past 30 years.
This figure represents a little skier. His body is made from five silver-tone horseshoe nails. He is shown crouching and is obviously flying downhill at speed as his ski sticks are lifted up behind him. It is a very clever creation!
The little figure is mounted on a shiny black marble or polished slate base. He is in excellent vintage condition.
Dimensions: The length of the figure's skis are 4 1/2 inches. The height of the figure (not counting the base) is 4 1/4 inches. The total height is just over inches.
