This is a very fine limited edition paperweight made in the 1980s by Caithness Glass paperweight; for the Edinburgh Crystal company.
The edition size was only 250 weights and this one comes with a certificate stating that this one is No. 213.
This weight is a very sophisticated one. It has a ground colour of a very dark purple. The ground is set with lots of little millefiori canes in the shape of a five-point star. There are latticino twisted canes forming the edges of the star. In the centre is a little lampwork thistle, as photographed.
The weight is a ball-shaped with a flattened faceted viewing panel on the top. And around the side are more polished facets; five in total. All these polished facets are quite intricate and complicated additions.
My weight is in excellent vintage condition. There are no chips or disfiguring scratches. There is one of the tiniest little scratches - very light and a couple of mm in length near one of the facets of the side. It is so minor that I am completely unable to photograph it and you really have to put your glasses on and look in extreme close up to see it at all. It is mentioned for accuracy. This smallest of blemishes in no way affects your enjoyment of this hard to find weight.
It has a diameter of 2 3/4 inches and a height of 2 1/4 inches.
It comes with its original claret coloured velvet presentation box. A very lovely Scottish paperweight for your collection.
