This is a sweet little antique Victorian paperweight that I have in my store.
It takes the form of a miniature glass dump - with a green tinge to the glass (as you might find in old antique bottles). Inside this one is a little two-tier plant pot - made up of thousands of tiny air bubbles. They were very popular with Victorians - and they often featured ones with yellow flowers, and sulphide fountain shapes or were large doorstops with simple bubble inclusions.
I have three other ones from this period - two with yellow trumpet flowers and another with yellow swirls. These are available in my store.
The decoration in this Victorian glass dump was achieved by rolling the hot glass in chalk or a similar substance and when the chalk oxidised it formed tiny bubbles, giving an almost silvery shine to the petals. It required an immense amount of patience and skill to form the petals on these tiny three-dimensional multi-layered flowers.
These weights are highly collectable pieces of antique glass and there is a chapter on them in the book Old English Paperweights by Robert S. Hall.
They are still collectable desktop or decoration items for period interiors.
This is a more unusual tiny example - the height is about 2/14 inches. The diameter is 2 inches. It is in good condition for its age - just a couple of tiny dings to the side - that you can't see with your naked eye - but only with your fingertips if you run your hands over the surface.
I have priced this wee antique piece of glass at a very fair price.
It will cost £4.95 to send to you with Royal Mail Recorded post - this will be applied at the checkout stage. All small parcels up to 2kg in weight are capped in the UK at this price.
