This is a fabulous Scottish paperweight made towards the end of the 20th century.
It is made by a glass artist, Sarah Peterson who was working at Caithness Glass at this time.
It is a larger size and ovoid in form - it has a height of about 5 1/4 inches. It has a good weight to it being over 2kg in weight.
It is called Midnight Mountain and is from the Fantasy Island series. It is inscribed with these details on the base - and the number H 27153. I had another from the series in my shop - but this one was sold.
This fine one is certainly an unusual weight and shows Caithness striving to keep up with modern fashions in glass design. It has a rich blue colour - and shows a large grey rock or mountain peak with wee stars behind it and a white crescent moon in the distance. There are fine threads or hoops encircling the design towards the base, like a rising swirling mist.
Any strange white flashes on my images are only reflections from the glass and are not damages or flaws in the paperweight
The original issue price for this beautiful weight was £150. So my asking price is certainly a very fair one - especially for this much harder-to-find weight.
It is in damage-free condition, and as you can see from all my photographs, a really fabulous example.
As it is such a large and heavy paperweight - it would sadly have to be limited to posting to the UK only.
