This is certainly an attractive vintage Scottish paperweight for your collection. It is also a much harder one to source - as not many were actually produced.
It was made by the glass maestro at Caithness Glass, Alastair MacIntosh. This one is called Alternation.
It is number 66 out of a limited edition of just 750 pieces (closed at only 282 weights that were actually made). It has the etched edition number and title on the base.
This lovely weight with a spherical shape and a round polished viewing window to the front. The exterior of the weight is satin finish which is slightly opaque and picks up hints of the colour of the flower inside the weight.
The paperweight sits on a polished base - with the title and edition number inscribed on it. The weight sits at a slight tilt so that the polished facet which makes up the viewing window is at a jaunty angle - to allow you to easily look inside it.
In the paperweight is a large abstracted flower with four petal sections - one layer of petals in kingfisher blue and the other at the front in dark purple. These colours glow through the external satin finish.
A very pretty weight with sweet blue and purple shades. It is of course in good condition with no nasty chips or scratches. There is the tiniest of fleabites to the edge of the viewing window - you cannot see it when looking at the weight - but if you run your finger are the edge of the window - you can just about feel a tiny loss (you do have to look hard for it - and it is mentioned for accuracy). This is taken into account in my pricing - as is the rarity of this Scottish weight - and that examples are now really hard to find. My asking price for this 25 year old weight is actually cheaper than the release price back in 2000.
It measures 3 inches in height, so a nice larger-sized weight.
