This is subtle and very attractive piece of unique British Studio Glass.
It takes the form of a large egg-shaped paperweight and it is signed Norman Stuart Clarke on the base (as photographed).
Clarke was born in Essex in 1944 and was one of Britain's leading glassblowers. He started his career at the Nazeing glassworks in Essex and worked in 1978 was Peter Layton at London Glassblowing, before moving to Cornwall to set up his own studio in 1983. He worked for many years from his studio near St Ives in Cornwall. In 2004, he moved to Europe.
This lovely piece of glass is an egg-shaped weight - and it dates to the 1980s. The ethereal colours and iridescent hues are reminiscent of the tones and hues found in Cornish seascapes. The lusters on the surface of his glassworks are often reminiscent of those found on Tiffany pieces.
It is in excellent vintage condition. A nice large size for display - it measures 4 1/4 inches in height and with a diameter at the widest point of 3 1/2 inches.
