This is a rare abstract paperweight by Philip Chaplain. It is called One Fine Day and is dated to 1999
It comes from a limited edition of only 100 weights (closed at only 46, so only a very small amount released). It originally retailed for £325 which reflected the complexity of the design. This paperweight is No 24.
The weight is egg or tear-shaped with sliced viewing weight to the front. The exterior of the weight is opaque and frosted. There are lots of little raised floral patterns all across the back. The light shining through the colours inside gives the weight an almost opalescent glow.
When you look through the polished facet window on the front, you can see the lovely colourful sculptural inclusion inside. This represents a fantastic landscape with blue peaks, a red field (probably poppy covered) and a sprinkled white frosted ground. The base colour is a plum-purple shade as photographed.
It is edition numbered etc on the base.
It is a very sophisticated weight that is in good vintage condition - with no chips, scratches or damages.
I have been unable to find another one of these on offer for sale. It is deemed to be a rarer weight and this is reflected in my asking price for this special one. It must have taken ages to make it. You probably won't see another one of these offered for a long time.
