This is a very rare survivor - it is an original 1930s miniature powder compact.
These old Jean Ravone / Cussons ones are hard to find - and this one is particularly so and much sought after.
The lid and base on the exterior is made of a celluloid type material rather than enamel - so makes it more fragile and less able to survive in such lovely condition. There are no blemishes to it - so how amazing.
The lid shows a very stylised and typical Art Deco design - red, cream, grey and black decorative shapes - with the elegant silhouette of a dancing lady to the right-hand side. The base is shiny black with no scratches. The lid is marked Ravon.
The interior is polished chrome - there is no mirror in the inside lid - as this compact was designed to have a highly polished chrome functioning as your mirror. There is a little shallow powder well - with the original powder sifter still present. I have not removed this as it seems to be rather delicate and firmly in place - and scared that it might tear.
It is marked Made in England on the hinge inside. The hinge and closing clasp are in good condition with no issues.
It is miniature - so perhaps intended to just put a touch of powder on the tip of your nose - or a wee touch of rouge on your cheek.
This is probably more of an item for the more specialist compact collector or collector of stylish Art Deco design. This is reflected in my asking price. The compact will be posted in a nice little black card gift box.
