This is a lovely stylish piece of Orrefors Glass - it dates to the mid-1950s and is signed and numbered on the base.
The engraved inscription on th e base is difficult to read - but I have been able to make out the following: Orrefors NU 3538/1
This designer Sommerso vase was made by the Swedish glass maestro Nils Landberg (1907 - 1991). It comes from the Dusk Series of glass designed by him. The vase has low shoulders and a tall neck. It is one of the tallest in the series.
Landberg was a renowned designer in Sweden. He started as an engraver at Orrefors in 1928 and stayed on at Orrefors until 1972.
It is a nice modernist smoky grey-olive colour - and it is cased with a thick layer of clear glass. It is a very elegant minimalistic mid-century modern design.
It is a nice large piece of glass - measuring 11 3/4 inches in height and 5 1/4 inches at the widest point. It is 1.4 kg unpacked.
It is in good vintage condition with no chips or cracks etc - there is no bloom or staining on the inside.
