This is a pair of hand-decorated studio pottery mugs. They are both signed underneath. The signature has run a little in the application - but it is the mark for the potter David Tipler. He joined the pottery in 1961 and left Aldermaston in 1975.
The mugs were made at the Aldermaston Pottery, probably in the 1960s.
The Pottery was founded in Berkshire in 1955 by Alan Caiger-Smith.
Half a dozen assistant potters worked at Aldermaston and they worked as a team for more routine production work - and individually for studio pieces.
The Pottery is noted mainly for its tin-glaze wares with stylish abstract designs and also for its lustreware.
This is a pretty matched pair of hand-thrown and hand-painted coffee mugs. The pattern on each much is the same. The mug with the darker blue pattern is 9 cm in height - and the diameter is just over 7 cm. The lighter blue-green mug is the same height - but has a slightly wider diameter of 7.5 cm.
I am listing these lovely pieces of 60s studio pottery at £35 each mug.
Both are lovely pieces and in good condition with no damage.
UK Postage for each set will be £4.95 with Royal Mail Recorded Post. This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
