This is such a stunning 1930s vase. I adore it! It was made by Carlton Ware and the patterh is called Sketching Bird. It is fully marked on the base with all issue details.
It is in excellent condition with no damages, and no losses to the gilding or the paintwork. Nice and clean inside - where you can really see the glories of the lustre finish on the glaze. There is no sign of any crazing on this piece - which you often find on similar ones.
The vase is an attractive globular shape and will look great in a period Art Deco interior. The decoraton features an exotic sketching bird (a little like a kingfisher). The bird is shown in full flight with equally exotic trees and foliage in the background. There are a lot of exquisite details on the composition picked out in gold. The decoration on the vase in lots of areas is hand-applied and raised from the surface - to give it more of a hand-made feel.
It is a nice measuring about 6 inches in height. The diameter at the widest point is 6 1/2 inches. The rim is 4 1/4 inches. The base is 3 3/4 inches.
