This is a decorative antique wall mirror. It dates to the late 19th century / early 20th century.
It is Arts and Crafts period and features a "Liberty Style" / or Margaret Gilmour Glasgow School type of design. Sadly, it has no maker's mark - which is suprising as it must have involved a lot of work in the making. It is all the same a pretty mirror and will good in a period Edwardian interior - or because of all the butterflies, in a country cottage with wild flower garden.
It is in good antique condition and displays well. The pewter section is generally without damage - and features raised decoration. The mirror is an octagonal shape - and has a butterfly with spread wings in four corners. There are also four metal cabouchons finised in a blue enamel - these are surrounded by whiplash shapes that form an attractive raised pattern. The butterflies are well observed and have careful depictions of their form. They are brought out by the addition of a planished texture on the background, below their wings.
I have taken lots of images for your attention - there are old hooks on the back which allow the mirror to be hung as a longer length - but we can move the hooks and replace so that you can hang it as a wider mirror.
The back of the mirror has the original backing, as photographed. If you wished new brown backing paper on the back over this - please discuss with us. I have photographed this for you.
The only condition problem is this is a wee scratch to the upper corner of the mirror (this is on the back of the mirror, but shows on the front). It is not disfiguring and given the age of the mirror is commensurate with age and it being an antique piece. The mirror is, of course, original to the pewter surround and it has a bevelled edge as can be seen in my photographs.
Dimensions: The pewter frame is 23 x 20 inches (at the widest points) and the mirror section is 14 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches. As you can see it is a nice large size and a dramatic piece for your interior.
It is a fine decorative piece and you wont be disappointed with it. It can be carefully packed to send UK wide. This would be about £25.
