This is one of three Rosenthal Alphabet vases that I have listed on my website. This is some of the two smaller ones measuring some 7 1/4 inches in height.
It is triangular in form with different stylized letters on each side, as photographed. The top of each side is arch shaped. I love all the lettering - with its strange shapes and dynamic colours. It was designed by the Italian Constructivist artist Marcello Morandini and dates to the late 1980s. We were quite taken by the display of his works at the Gallery of Modern Art in Rome - and have added a couple of images to my listing of us admiring his works - including a full alphabet which was on display there.
Morandini was born in Mantua in 1940 and studied in Milan. He founded his own studio in 1962. He gained international recognition through exhibitions in Venice and New York. His work combines art, architecture and design in a unique, constructivist design vocabulary.
I have two different smaller ones and the rarer large one. Here, the letters seem to be O; T; and V. Each side is covered with Constructivist letters (other ones just have a simple list of the work Happiness in different languages).
It is fully marked on the base. It is in perfect vintage condition with no damages. My Morandini all look rather stunning - and indeed I am rather tempted to keep them.. oh! hard decisions. It will certainly be a bit of a showstopper in a modernist interior. You will not be disappointed with it.
Dimensions: Height is 7 1/4 inches. Each side is 3 1/2 inches.
