How cute is this - a piece of Scottish / Hollywood history. Please note that this is a very rare survivor and noted in my asking price.
It is a little round miniature lidded tin which would have been used for as a gift to special customers and it contained samples of little round biscuits. The base is inscribed Willie Barr & Ross Ltd / FREE SAMPLE / Sunshine Biscuits / GLASGOW.
The tin must date to around the 1930s - when Shirley Temple was a big Hollywood Star - and it is an early item with Holywood movie star being used to promoted products. They also used other famous faces on their tins - such as King George V and Queen Mary. But I would imagine that the smiling face of a youthful Shirley Temple would have been a very popular one. That said - not many of these seemed to have survived the last 90 years.
Dimensions: the tin is 3 1/4 inches in diameter and 1 inch in height
This one is in pretty good condition given its age and use. There are some little scratches to the image on the lid (as photographed), some rubbing to the base - and some discolouring to the tin inside. I have taken images of this for your inspection. There are no dents and no rusting to the metal.
HISTORY 1897 Wyllie, Barr and Ross Limited was incorporated, with capital of £40,000, to acquire and carry on the business of Robert Wyllie & Co, biscuit manufacturers, Parkholm Biscuit Factory, Paisley Road, Glasgow. The Sunshine Biscuit Bakery was based at 356 Paisley Road. My tin must date to before 1953 when the company went into voluntary liquidation - and a new company formed (with the Ltd attachment dropped). The company was finally dissolved in 1973.
