This is probably one of the largest Buchan jugs that you will ever come across. It is certainly the largest that I have ever seen - it is quite massive in scale. I have included a couple of images of it with the next size down. The large jug is also for sale in my store.
This stunning vintage stoneware handled jug or pitcher was made by Buchan Pottery, who were based at Portobello, near Edinburgh (now closed).
It is certainly a most substantial piece of Scottish Pottery - standing at 10 1/4 inches in height. It has a diameter at the base of 7 inches. From handle to spout it is 8 inches. It weights a stonking 1.9 kg unpacked.
This lovely pattern called Hebrides (one of my favourite Buchan patterns). This features a stylised abstract pattern of yellow and blue zigzag lines and stripes. Apart from its exceptional size, it is also a special piece as it is marked (in the factory) Sample. These sample pieces would have been held at the factory as reference pieces showing what the finished designs should look like - or as sample to show potential clients for them to select products to stock in their china shops.
Obviously, these sample pieces are rarer items to find. This is all reflected in my asking price. A traditionally popular pattern in the Buchan Stoneware range with a good mid-century modern feel to the design.
A most lovely coffee pot in excellent vintage condition. Postage will be with Royal Mail Tracked (Medium Parcel) and applied to your order at the checkout.
