This is a rather stunning piece of Royal Doulton porcelain. It takes the form of a large Golden Tiger and it comes from the Prestige Range. It is the largest model in this range and is model HN2639. The model is called Tiger on Rock.
It was first realised in the early 1950s and was designed under the direction of Charles Noke. The model certainly captures the maginificence of the Golden Tiger - who slinks down a large naturalistic rocky base. It would have been all very carefully hand-painted and just like a real tiger - none of the stripes on each model would be exactly the same.
The model is slip-cast and is not solid in form. It has a certain delicacy to the model despite its large scale. It has been part of my own personal collection and has been sitting on the desk in my sitting room for about 20 years now. It has never been moved - except for the occasional dusting - so it is in excellent condition. It has no chips, cracks or restorations. There is no crazing to the glaze. There is a little mark on the base edge as photographed - it has always had that mark - but it is not seen on display. I have taken lots of images for you to assess the model.
There is a Royal Doulton mark inside the tiger - on the base area. There is also a little impressed date for the year 1983. This large model is much sough-after by "Big Cat" collectors - it sure looked rather stunning on my table. I will be sad to see him go - but doing a bit of a shuffle about of my own items at home. I have listed him at a fair price.
Dimensions: 15 inches in length. Width is 11 inches. The height is 11 3/4 inches. It is the largest tiger in this series and I have taken photographs of it being held up so you can get a good idea of its size.
