This is a great item for popping on top of the mantlepiece of an antique fireplace in a Victorian interior.
This is a genuine 19th-century Victorian example and is in good condition for its age. It is a rarer model - and you do not find this one so often.
It has no damages or restorations and is also a nice size for display. I am amazed that the leg of the Highlander is intact with no damage - it is so delicate.
It is 10 inches in height and with a width of 8 inches. The depth is 2 1/2 inches. Unpacked it weighs 800 grams.
The flatback figurine is designed to be seen set against a wall - the front is decorated but the back is left plain as you would not see this when it is on show.
Here we have a Highland couple who are dancing a Scottish dance. The figurine is beautifully modelled with a feeling of movement. The Highland Gentleman wears Argyll plaid socks, a blush pink gathered kilt, a black sporran, a white waistcoat, a shiny Royal blue jacket and a tall white hat with coloured cockade. He has been swirling about. One leg is placed to the side; one arm is on his hip and the other is raised and is entwined in his partner's long shawl or scarf. His lovely lad wears a short gathered dress - and has a Royal blue bodice - and wears an elaborate headdress and carries a large circular posy of flowers. She flutters her long green scarf as part of their dance. They stand on a grassy bank.
Not only has this figure got a lot of movement in the modelling, but the colours and paintwork are so fine. The faces are well done and look like real people.
This is a very nice clean example - it is a genuine antique, NOT a modern reproduction. As mentioned, it is a much better painted and finished example and again this is reflected in my asking prices.
