This is a collectable and decorative large antique Staffordshire figurine depicting the Scottish poet, Robert Burns.
It is one of a two white figurines both taken from the same mould in my online shop. The other one that I had in stock was more highly coloured and perhaps more decorative. That one has now sold.
This one is a nice large size. Height is 13 ¼ inches. It is in excellent antique condition and dates to the mid to late 19th century. Reference: Harding Book 1, Page 35, Fig 57
Here, we have a standing figure of the poet - his face and hands are the only coloured areas and painted with subtle flesh tones - his clothes are white with details picked out in gold. His hair and boots are a simple black colour.
Burns is shown in a romantic pose gazing in reverie and out into the distance. He holds a book of his poetry in his hand - and in the other a Scotch bonnet or Tam O'Shanter hat - a reference to one of his most famous poems.
He is in excellent condition with no disfiguring damages - there is a fine and stable firing crack on the base, as photographed. This is not damage but has occurred in the making. There is a little rubbing to the tip of his nose - but a minor issue commensurate with age. This has been reflected in my low asking price.
