This is a very lovely crystal decanter - sadly, I have looked all over for the pattern of this piece - but have not come up with a definitive identification of either the pattern or indeed the marker.
It is a beautifully made one with a large and faceted globe stopper, as photographed. These stoppers were often sold with Edinburgh Crystal and Royal Doulton Decanters - so my decanter is British in origin. It would probably have had an applied paper label in the past - and this has now been lost over time - which might suggest it being Royal Doulton - rather than an Edinburgh one (which are more often signed on the base).
The decanter is square cut with chamfered corners. The lower section is covered all over with a deeply engraved criss-cross pattern forming rows of diamond shapes. There is then a horizontal lines all around. Above this - are tall vertical fine spear shapes going to the neck of the decanter. The neck has shaped and sloping shoulders and flares out at the top to receive the stopper. The decoration covers all of the main body section of the decanter.
There is a large deeply engraved star on the base.
The design probably dates to around the 1980s as it seems to be a much more contemporary pattern. It has a good bit of weight to it - and as you can see from my photographs.
I am putting a lower price on it due to it being unattributed to a maker - but it is a fabulous and eye-catching piece of vintage crystal. It would make a great Christmas gift for a friend - just add a nice bottle of Scotch - and you can borrow that lawnmower from them again come spring time (tee hee!).
Dimensions: Height with stopper is 10 1/4 inches. It is 7 3/4 inches (not including the stopper) and it is just over 3 1/2 inches square. The stopper is 3 3/4 inches in length. Perfect Condition, but of course!
It is a very substantial bit of crystal (unpacked it is nearly 1.9 kg) and would have to be sent to you with Royal Mail Heavier Parcel. This will be applied to your order at checkout.
