This are two little antique German souvenir figurines. They date to the 1920s - and both have an impressed "foreign" mark on the back. These were not marked at this time as being made in Germany - as soon after WWI, not many people were keen on buying German productions in the UK.
They are very much of their time and perhaps more of historical interest rather than aesthetic appeal. These examples are often called Heather Ware items - and the globe that the ladies rest on is decorated with a sprig of lucky white heather. And the words "From Edinburgh". You would have bought these on your holidays to Scotland in the 1920s and taken them home as a souvenir of your trip - or as a wee gift for a friend.
The Germans had a well-established manufacturer of such souvenir and crested ware goods.
On offer here are the little pair of Bathing Belles resting on a large globe. They are made of fine bone china. They are in excellent condition with no damage. Given that they are now little antiques and over 100 years old - it is remarkable that they have survived in such lovely condition.
One figure wears an orange hat, vest and bell-bottom slacks with an orange detail at the hem. The other figure has a vest and wee orange shorts. There is a slight lustre to the glaze on each model. Both are 4 inches in height
I am listing these at a fair price of £25 each. They are much harder to find with the Belles on the Heather Wares, as well as forming a decorative pair facing in different directions.
The models are hollow at the back - so might have originally been used as an ashtray or perhaps a little storage pot for pins or other wee personal items.
Postage in the UK will be with Royal Mail Recorded. This will be £5.50 and applied to your order at the checkout.
