This is a vintage 1950s West Bend Chrome Ice Bucket (or hot food serving dish!)
It is American in origin - and indeed I brought this back with me to the UK from the States - when I was in Philadelphia on a business trip. I have never used it and indeed it still retains its original leaflet which came with the ice bucket when it was first retailed back in the 1950s (very rare!).
As you can see from my photos, the piece is in fabulous condition. It has no dents or nasty scratches and is all clean inside.
The bucket has dark wooden handles to each side and a big matching wooden ball knop on the top.
The best thing about this ice pail is the little frieze running around the sides taking the form of little marching penguins.
The bucket is a mid-century design - but harks back to the earlier styles of the Art Deco period.
It's manufacturing details and place of origin are annotated on the base, as photographed.
The ice bucket is 8 inches in height and is about 10 inches wide. I have never seen another with the original 50s advertising insert.
These ice buckets are not so easily sourced in the UK - as the cost to ship them from the States can prove to be rather expensive. I will pack this one and post in a tracked medium size parcel with the Royal Mail - which will put post costs up a little - but will mean that it arrives undamaged with you.
