This is a very unusual vintage Art Pottery Vase. It was made by the French ceramic artist, Francis Triay (1927-2013), who was based at Aubagne.
It dates to the 1950s and is a unique piece. The texture of the outer surface is a rough grey like concrete and the interior by contrast is a bright glossy red.
The pre-historic decoration features stylized and rather naive cavemen - which you find on other vintage Triay pieces. I have taken lots of images for your inspection.
The front of the vase shows a raised image of a deer or reindeer's head. The back has another raised image of a goat running. There is a selection of lightly incised cave art images or symbols - including two little stickman images of huntsmen with long spears.
Dimensions: Height is 5 3/4 inches. The diameter at the widest is 4 1/4 inches.
